Happy Birthday to You &You &You
Todos Santos, Mexico
Happy Birthday to You & You & You Portal Happening. It wasn’t just everyone’s birthday party—although it was certainly that.
The first night was the seduction via a sensorial meal prepared by Ernesto Kut at his fabulous home.
The second night we gathered under the stars to experience the cosmic conception with performances by @sludgepony.
and on the third and final night it was the birth itself. Held at Castillo de Dracula it was birthday party like no other. We were all reborn collectively in the Uterus Room, an interactive installation created by a group of artists (Zohar, Holly Biorklund, Julia Chaplin, and Alf Moctezuma.)
Spectators participated in a farcical ceremony in a dim, red lit cavernous chamber called the Uterus room. Cultish glittery lab coats suspended from the ceiling, each person had to fit their arms into the sleeves and stand facing one another in a circle waiting for something to happen. But it already had.
The absurdity was the disarmament and now with expectations of normalcy gone, everyone was in an open state of mind ready to receive. On the mic, Zohar gave poetic cryptic guidance distorted by the musician Alf and his band creating a soundscape that washed the participants in confusion and beauty. Holly, witchy and celestial in her glittery gown, delivered symbolic props like a paper cup telephone to God and a ladder to heaven.
The installation was meant both as a commentary on ceremonies but also a formidable ceremony itself. In this naive state we felt a sense of connectedness and trust. The birth was underway and by the time the birthday cake came out several hours later everyone who was there felt reborn.
In this collective state of rejuvenation we then went to the solarium where DJ Jaime Fiorito, who had traveled from his home in Ibiza to join us, was spinning the most beautiful music and we danced together under the moon.
